Scripture: Lamentations 3:22-23 – “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning…”

Mercy is God withholding from us the punishment we deserve. I think we get this idea that we are “pretty good”. The enemy seduces us with thought like that, when it comes to our sinful natures. The problem is…we are sinners in desperate need of a savior. God is holy and it is ONLY through a relationship with Christ, and being sealed by the Holy Spirit, that the common is made Holy. Even then, our idea of righteousness, or righteous living is nothing but filthy rags before our Pure and Holy God…Isaiah 64:6. Through his mercies that are made new every morning…Lamentations 3:23. Each day, He offers us a fresh start, an opportunity of willing surrender and obedience. No matter how many times we fall, He extends grace and compassion, lifting us back up. His mercy is greater than our mistakes.

The world often operates on performance-based acceptance, but God’s love is not dependent on our perfection. His mercy is a gift freely given, reminding us that we are deeply loved despite our shortcomings. Though we are called to repent of our sins so that we can grow deeper in our walk with Jesus, we can approach Him with confidence, knowing He welcomes us with open arms…Hebrews 4:16. Being a believer doesn’t mean we are sinless, but it should cause us to sin less as we become more and more like him.

Reflect today: How have you experienced God’s mercy in your life? Let’s take a moment to thank Him for His unending grace and love, asking him to reveal anything in us that isn’t of HIM. If we do this willingly, He will grow, mature, strengthen, our faith as we work out our salvation with fear and trembling before our Mighty God who loves us more that we can possibly imagine.
