Shattered Pieces: A Revealing Devotional
Daily Devotional
I had an interesting dream one night. Then the Lord led me to listen to a message. That message confirmed a similar truth. I feel led to share it with you. I worked to create a picture…it doesn’t look like what I saw in my dream. But, I did my best to give you a visual.
The Dream
In the dream, I was dealing with someone who was very broken, bitter, and angry. I tried to communicate with them. I wanted to ease their bitterness. Yet, three times I hugged them. Each time I stepped away with deep, bleeding cuts all over me. Each time I pulled back and looked at my wounds, the person sneered and said, “You deserve that.”
After the third time, I fell to my knees and cried out to God, asking Him to search my heart. Had I truly done something to deserve these wounds? As I prayed, I heard the Lord ask, “Do you want to SEE?” I hesitated but replied, “Yes, I want to see, because I don’t understand this.” He asked again, “Are you willing to SEE?” And again, I answered, “Yes.”
Suddenly, the person appeared before me—translucent. I could see through them, yet I could still see them clearly. And then I saw it: their entire being was made up of shards of glass. Inside they were completely broken.
The Lord spoke: “Do you SEE? It is their brokenness that has cut and torn into your flesh. The shattered pieces of glass represent their pain. Their response to your love angers them, and they believe you deserve their hostility. This is a sign of their rebellion. Your compassion reminds them of their need for healing, and they see you as a threat. They know I, the Lord, am the only one who can heal them. But healing requires repentance and surrender. To them, you deserve to be as broken as they are. I am the God who heals, but they must submit to Me with a willing heart. Otherwise, they will continue to wound those who try to love them, blaming others for their pain. It is not your job to heal them; they must surrender to Me.”
The Confirmation
I awoke stunned. But God wasn’t done. He led me to listen to a message that confirmed this vision. The message declared that God can do anything—nothing is too hard for Him—if we truly believe and trust Him. We must not doubt who He is or His ability to restore those we are praying for. Even the heavens testify of His greatness!
He is Jehovah Rapha—the God who heals (Exodus 15:26). If they would only repent and believe, He would restore them. Yet, only God knows who will repent. Our role is to follow His lead in these situations.
A Call to Trust
You and I can pray for the broken, but we cannot heal them. It is okay to be broken, but it is not okay to unpack and live in brokenness. God sees that as rebellion—a refusal to allow Him to be Lord over every area of our lives. He is the only one who can heal their brokenness.
If you are dealing with someone like this, or if that someone is you, pray for a willingness to surrender. Pray they will repent. Pray they find healing in Jesus. If you are being wounded by their brokenness, I pray the Lord gives you grace. May you find love, mercy, and strength to endure the journey. Continue to intercede for them. But do not assume responsibility for them.
You do not deserve to be wounded by their brokenness. Their bitterness is birthed from rebellion against God, and only He can break through their hardened heart. The best thing we can do is lay them at His feet and trust Him with the outcome.
Scripture Devotional References for Reflection
Jeremiah 32:27 – “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is there anything too difficult for Me?”
Psalm 8:3-4 – “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars. You have set them in place. What is mankind that You are mindful of them? Human beings that You care for them?”
James 4:7-8 – “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
Exodus 15:26 – “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God. Pay careful attention. Do what is right in His sight. Listen to His commandments and keep all His precepts and statutes foremost in your thoughts and actively obey them. Then I will not put on you any of the diseases which I have put on the Egyptians. I am the LORD who heals you.”
Blessings to YOU,
