Daily Devotional

Scripture: “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” – Luke 22:31-32

Devotional Thought:

I would guess most people don’t realize what it takes to get flour. We just go to the store to buy it. Most people don’t run out to the field. They don’t harvest the wheat stalks. They don’t come back to sift the wheat to prepare it for use. I am guessing most of us don’t even think about the process. We just grab our bag

There’s a process—threshing, winnowing, and sifting—that removes the inedible parts and leaves behind what’s useful. When Jesus told Peter that Satan had requested to sift him like wheat, He was revealing something profound. The trials Peter would endure weren’t pointless. They were part of a refining process.

Peter, like us, had to be stripped of arrogance, fear, and pride before he could be fully used by God. He was confident that he would never deny Christ, yet under pressure, he did exactly that. But Jesus, knowing Peter’s weaknesses, also knew the strength that would emerge after Peter’s sifting. The enemy wanted to break him, but God allowed the process to prepare him for greater things.

When we face trials, it can feel like God is distant. But what if, instead of breaking us, these moments are designed to purify and prepare us? The sifting process is never easy. However, it removes what is useless. It leaves behind a heart that is fully surrendered to God. Peter’s sifting led to his powerful ministry, and God is working in you the same way.

Reflection & Prayer:

Are you in a season of sifting? Are there things in your life that God may be removing to strengthen your faith? Trust that God is using every trial for your good and His glory. Like Peter, may we turn back, strengthened, to encourage others in their faith.

Prayer:
Lord, when I feel the weight of trials, remind me that You are refining me. Strengthen my faith, remove what doesn’t belong, and help me to trust Your perfect plan. Amen.
