Time For A Change: A Timely Devotional
Daily Devotional
Scripture: Romans 12:1-2 “Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Do not conform to the patterns of this age, but be transformed {changed}, by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”
Nothing Changes If… Nothing Changes
Everything we think, say, and do matters. Transformation is key to our life in Christ. We are no longer called to live by the world’s standards, yet transformation doesn’t happen by accident. It requires intentional surrender.
Paul tells us in Romans 12:1-2 to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This is why we must take every thought captive and make it obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). Not just some thoughts—every thought. Our thoughts determine our actions, behaviors, and choices, shaping the course of our lives and impacting those around us.
We become whatever we fill up on. What we allow into our hearts and minds will overflow into our words and actions. If our thoughts are not filtered by God’s truth, they will lead us down a destructive path. James warns us:
“The tongue is a fire. The tongue, a world of unrighteousness, is placed among our members. It stains the whole body, sets the course of life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.” – James 3:6
God’s command to take our thoughts captive isn’t to restrict us—it’s to protect us. If nothing changes, nothing changes. If we refuse to surrender our minds to Christ, our thoughts and words will lead to destruction. Transformation is a process. It requires daily surrender—letting go of our way of thinking and replacing it with His.
A Renewed Mind Leads to a Changed Life
Transformation through Christ doesn’t mean we become sinless, but it does mean we will desire to sin less. A renewed mind craves righteousness. But this only happens when we saturate ourselves in God’s Word, allowing it to shape and refine us.
At the end of our lives, we will stand before God and give an account. We won’t be able to blame anyone else for our choices. Believers will be accountable for what we did with the new life we were given in Christ. Unbelievers will be held accountable for rejecting Him. There is no escaping God’s truth.
So, will we surrender? Will we truly allow Christ to transform us? Or will we remain unchanged, comfortable in a mindset that leads to destruction?
Because nothing changes… if nothing changes.
Devotional Reflection & Prayer
- Are there thoughts or behaviors in your life that you have yet to surrender to Christ?
- How can you be more intentional about renewing your mind through God’s Word?
- Ask the Lord to reveal areas where transformation is needed and to give you the strength to walk in obedience.
Additional Scripture for Devotional Study
2 Corinthians 10:5 – “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Ephesians 4:22-24 – “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Matthew 12:36-37 – “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
